our customers' expectations.Overview of the Role:The Capital
Projects Engineer is responsible for providing the technical/
engineering leadership to support capital project initiative
execution (process, packaging, warehouse, facilities & grounds), as
well as oversee effective maintenance and reliability of assets at
the site. The role spans from strategic planning of the out-year
and long-range capex plans to the scope development, design,
budgeting, capex funding requests, and direct project leadership
and responsibility for the execution of discrete projects on the
in-year capital plan to ensure safe and compliant operations, asset
integrity, as well as the efficiency & growth agenda for the
business. This role will directly lead the packaging/ packaged
goods portfolio of projects, so PRIOR ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE IN
CONSUMER PACKAGED GOODS MANUFACTURING IS AN ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT
FOR THE ROLE.Responsibilities:CAPEX:
- Lead the development of capex planning for out-year and
long-range capex investment to ensure safe & compliant operations,
asset integrity, operational efficiency, and new business growth
opportunities.
- Lead the execution of the annual capital plan and ensure
routine performance and progress reporting on project execution
status vs plan.
- Execute projects with disciplined and rigorous adherence to the
capex execution stage gate process (Appraise/ Define/ Execute/
Operate) ensuring stakeholder engagement and formal signoffs and
approvals as required.
- Lead the detailed engineering scoping of projects with the
support of the operations and sales to achieve clearly defined
project outcomes and deliverables. Develop detailed cost estimates
for projects to be rolled up into CAPEX requests and work with
operations, sales, and finance to define the project justification
(ROI, payback, etc.) for projects that are efficiency and growth
driven.
- Develop detailed capex project designs using AutoCAD to
translate the scope into layout designs that can be used for
stakeholder engagement and alignment, detailed project costing, and
tendering of the projects for contractor (and in-house resource
where applicable) planning and bidding.
- Using MS-Project develop project implementation plans to ensure
project timelines are clearly defined and execution is tracked vs
the plan, and stakeholders are routinely updated.
- Lead the procurement process for capex assets to drive optimum
project cost through competitive tendering and sourcing of assets
in line with the project design to achieve the project goals.
- Assure project execution in accordance with plans through the
Maintenance & Construction Manager.
- Develop project "process narratives" as required to ensure that
a technical operating description is available for instrumentation
and controls technicians to develop the associated controls
strategy and PLC program.
- Ensures an effective Management of Change (MoC) transition and
hand-over of newly installed and/ or modified assets to Operations,
to ensure safe and effective commissioning, start-up, and
operation.
- Ensure process projects are appropriately scoped, designed,
executed, commissioned and start-up through the appropriate
leadership and direction of the Process Engineer.Maintenance:
- Provides over-arching strategy, direction, goal setting,
performance tracking, and performance assurance for the maintenance
execution within the plant.
- Leads the development of the annual maintenance and MRO budget
for the site and ensures the execution to plan.
- Through the Construction & Maintenance Manager, ensures assets
are maintained to deliver required operational performance goals
(throughput, OEE) and minimizing unplanned downtime by ensuring the
effective development, implementation, and execution of
preventative maintenance programs & processes.
- Ensure maintenance effectiveness through the application and
performance management of maintenance key performance indicators
(kpi's).
- Manage the maintenance backlog through the CMMS application for
the site and leverage that system for performance management
kpi's.
- Ensure MRO spend is approved (appropriate delegation of
authority) and optimized to deliver the reliability and performance
goals of the operation through effective sourcing strategies,
competitive tendering for supplies, and supplier performance
management.
- Ensure MRO stores inventory is optimized to meet operational
requirements.
- Ensure training requirements are planned & executed to enable
safe maintenance task execution, and the competency and capability
of the maintenance team to deliver safe and reliable asset
operation.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.Capital Projects
Engineer:
- Promotes One Team by communicating, engaging, and aligning
functions across manufacturing and sales (new business initiatives)
in support of effective project scoping, design, and
execution.
- Recognizes the performance of their team, or resources from
across the organization, when goals are achieved, targets are
delivered, and improvement initiatives are addressed in the area of
Project Execution & Maintenance Effectiveness.
- Reports to COO with a dashboard of kpi's that clearly
articulates current performance and performance trends and
identifies focused improvement opportunities.
- Assesses, supports, and addresses the competency and capability
development needs of own team and ensures the training and
development resources are available as required.
- Uses technology, software, and hardware to record information
and write reports.Qualifications:
- Minimum - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical,
Industrial, or Chemical preferred).
- Minimum 7 years of Engineering experience in CPG - Consumer
Packaged Goods manufacturing environments.
- Minimum 3 years of Project Engineering scoping, design,
execution, and start-up experience on consumer-packaged goods
related projects with comprehensive experience in AutoCAD design,
and the use of MS-Project for project scheduling, tracking, and
performance management.
- Minimum 3 years of experience leading salaried staff
teams.
- Experience in process engineering (fluids handling) is
preferred.
- Proficiency in MS-Office particularly MS-Excel for data
extraction, analysis, and reporting and MS-PowerPoint for
performance reporting and communication.
- Excellent interpersonal skills required for management of
direct reports (setting clear expectations, coaching, managing
performance) and influencing skills to manage across functional
boundaries to achieve functional goals.
- Required - Language, Writing and Reasoning - Must be proficient
in the English language.Certificates and Licenses:
- 4-year bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- MBA an asset.
- Spanish as a second language an asset.Physical Demand and Work
Conditions:
- A high volume of walking, sitting, and standing is part of the
daily schedule.
- Specific vision abilities are required to perform this job.
They include but are not limited to distance vision, peripheral
vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust
focus.

with the Texas region. Also, frequent exposure to moving equipment,
and high noise levels typical of a manufacturing plant with
