Position Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Academic Success and Advising:


  • Coordinate with faculty to identify JD students needing academic support with skills and exam strategies.
  • Partner with Student Services for advising, accommodations, and student programming related to academic success.
  • Serve as a primary advisor to a cohort of JD students (full-time and Weekend) on academic policies, course selection, and skill development.
  • Counsel students to improve academic and exam-taking skills.
  • Develop and deliver academic skills curriculum and workshops accessible to all JD students.
  • Lead extracurricular academic skills workshops, including during Weekend JD sessions.
  • Stay informed on best practices and trends in academic skills and pedagogy.
  • Assist with the Academic Enhancement Program, setting goals, measuring outcomes, and engaging students.
  • Guest lecture in the Advanced Legal Analysis course, a 1L remediation curriculum.
  • Collaborate on student programming with offices like Admissions, Diversity, and Student Services.
  • Participate in the Academic Success Committee and other duties as assigned.

    Bar Passage:

    • Coordinate with bar review vendors, ensuring compliance and implementing partnership agreements.
    • Develop and deliver bar-related programming and workshops for all JD students.
    • Provide counseling for students and alumni preparing for the bar exam.
    • Build relationships with bar examiners and stay informed on Illinois and other jurisdictions' bar processes.
    • Assist with data collection for bar passage statistics and reporting.
    • Implement strategies to improve bar passage rates and support students.
    • Track graduate progress with bar prep courses and serve on relevant committees.

      Other:

      • Support the Academic Tutoring Program.
      • Participate in professional development through conferences.
      • Perform other duties supporting the Academic Success and Bar Passage programs.

        Minimum Qualifications
        - Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
        - Successful passage of a Bar Exam.
        - Licensed in any state for at least 2-3 years.
        - Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
        Qualifications

        • Self-starter with strong work ethic and integrity.
        • Enthusiastic about helping students succeed academically and on the bar exam.
        • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

          Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

          • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
          • Licensed in any state for 2-3 years and in good standing.

            Additional Information
            - Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
            - No supervisory responsibilities.
            - No operation of university vehicles required.
            - No direct animal or patient contact.
            Physical and Working Conditions
            - Repetitive motions; irregular hours.
            Salary Range
            Minimum: $70,000/year; Maximum: $80,000/year.
