As a contributingmember of a health care team, functions in the role of patient advocate by being in the position of initialcontact for patient-related issues. Recognizes and consistently applies knowledge of Loyola's 14 Forcesof Magnetism.Patient Assessment - Functions in the role of patient advocate bybeing in the position of initial contact for patient-related issues.Clarifies and implements physician orders by administeringmedications and performing/ordering treatments and testing asprescribed by the physician (Magnet Force #12). Recognizessymptoms and establishes priorities consistent with patient's condition(Magnet Force #9). Documents patient's physical and emotional statusin order to address patient needs appropriately (Magnet Force #'s 5,6).Patient Care - Reviews and evaluates plan of care, obtains informationfrom patient and/or family, and adds to plan of care as appropriate(Magnet Force #'s 2,6). Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to promote efficient patient care (Magnet Force #'s10,11,13). Provides for the physical, cultural and psychosocial needsof the patient and family. Integrates evidence-based practice andprofessional standards whenever possible. Serves as a champion forpatient safety by continually observing and monitoring the clinicalenvironment and assuring that safety goals and standards areconsidered when providing care in the practice setting.Communication - Performs required documentation and communicatesin a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or familyneeds and regulatory requirements. Protects confidentiality of patient'sPersonal Health Information (PHI)Work Flow - Assists with the daily oversight of other clinical staff (othernurse and non-nurse staff members) when directed by the manager tomaximize work flow in the practice. Provides feedback to the managerwhen requested regarding work-related skills of non-licensedpersonnel. Serves as a mentor and preceptor for new staff and as aconstant resource to non-licensed or non-nurse personnel. Remainsflexible with work assignments throughout the clinical site to assureappropriate coverage to meet staffing and patient care needs.Quality Improvement - Utilizes time and resources effectively topromote quality and cost outcomes. Participates in site-specific anddivision quality projects and initiatives. Serves as a clinical expert byreporting patient related issues and concerns directly to the managerand medical director. Assumes an active role in maintaining sitepreparedness and compliance with guidelines and standards asdefined by regulatory agencies (ie.
