Employment Type:Part timeShift:Rotating ShiftDescription:Monitors patient condition and response to treatment and report changes to RN/MD to assure optimal patient outcomes. Provides behavioral intervention based on assessed needs for patients with related psychiatric conditions. Actively provides input on patients in shift report. Documents in the patient chart significant patient care observations, as observed through group, individual sessions, and within the milieu. Effectively sets limits in the milieu, both with consistency and flexibility when necessary.Is able to implement assigned aspect of treatment plan under supervision. Participates in performance improvement activities, including problem identification, data collection, solution, implementation and evaluation. Attends and participates in unit staff meetings. Integrates patient safety principles into all aspects of the patient's plan of care. Maintains and evaluates patient care in an ongoing effort to identify, and improve the safety and quality of patient care. Supervises patients in the care of their room and unit environment. May facilitate or lead group psycho educational sessions in the milieu and documents the sessions. Participates in the care needs of all inpatients as requested or directed by Unit RN. Carries out the following tasks, according to policy and procedures:Vital signs (TPR and BP), specimen collections, bathing and personal care when needed, intake and output, weights, carry out special precautions (i.e., seizures, elopement, suicide), serving and collecting meal trays and snacks, lifting and moving patients, linen distribution. Participates in community outreach activities as needed. Demonstrates an understanding of: general psychological principles, normal growth and development, abnormal behavior, the dynamics of group behavior, general care interventions, and milieu management. Demonstrates understanding of safety issues as related to behavioral health environment. Demonstrates basic understanding of patient rights and mental disabilities.Provides a safe, clean environment that protects the patient's rights and includes completion of levels of observation and checks of the patients/surroundings and records the results on flow sheets. Guides and assists patients in adhering to unit policies and procedures.Maintains a structured, therapeutic environment which addresses the age, developmental and psychological needs of the patient and includes individual time with assigned patients and conducting psycho-educational and other group activities per the unit schedule.May perform and document direct patient care tasks such as assistance with ADL's, vital signs, weights, heights, phlebotomy, routine urine and stool specimen collection.Participates in the development and ongoing review of the patient's treatment plan and progress towards goals. Is knowledgeable about the assigned patient's treatment goals and intervenes as identified in the treatment plan.Assists in patient admission, transfer and discharge procedures.Utilizing the least restrictive interventions, assists in the management of aggressive or destructive patient behavior according to the policy and procedures up to and including physical intervention and/or the application of restraints.Records patient observations, interventions and outcome in progress notes and flow sheets.Participates in unit and department activities related to improving patient care, such as performance improvement initiatives, staff meetings, in-services/training, program planning and committee work.May complete assistive duties such as answering phones, washing the patient's clothes, providing restricted articles, accompanying patients for off-unit tests and running errands.Complies with the skills, competencies and educational requirements related to the job and the department.Evaluates the environmental safety and provides an environment that is safe based on the age and the developmental status for both pediatric and adult populations served to maintain compliance with National Patient Safety Goals.Facilitates patient/family participation in self-care based on the age and the developmental status for both pediatric and adult populations.Remains informed of developments in area of expertise by attending seminars and workshops as well as reading pertinent literature.Conforms to the established Standards of BehaviorOther duties as assigned.SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIESInterpersonal skills necessary to establish a working relationship with patients and their families and staff.Analytical skills necessary in order to properly monitor patient's behaviors and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.Writing skills necessary in order to accurately document patient's progress in the medical record.Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when monitoring and caring for the patients.Self organization skills to complete work on time and complete multiple tasks effectively.The initiative to continually improve skills and "pitch in" to complete work.The physical ability to provide direct care which includes standing, walking, bending, lifting and intervening with combative patients.KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE AND LICENSUREMinimum of two (2) years previous Inpatient Psych experience preferred.Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of two (2) years of college with course work in psychology or a related field preferred or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.Addictions training/certification desirable. CPI certification preferred.Current CPR Certification required.May be required to complete phlebotomy training prior to starting work.
