Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Scholarly
Communications Instruction Librarian contributes to the vision and
development of University and Libraryinitiatives which support
digital scholarship,preservation, and research by faculty and
students.
Responsibilities
Model the University Mission through dedicated job performance,
service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and
active support of the
University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher
education.
-Manage the University institutional repository in an effort to
provide innovative, sustainable, and inclusive scholarly
communication services, andpolicies that support open access,
preservation, and broad dissemination of University research and
data.
-Coordinate all aspects of the Archives operations, including the
ongoing acquisition of relevant material; cataloging/metadata;
preservation, conservation and management of collections; and
development of access and usage policies appropriate to both
physical and digital collections.
-Collaborate with the Office of Mission and Identity to support the
University's involvement and promotion of Lasallian research
initiatives sponsored by the Lasallian Region of North America and
the Lasallian global network.
-Collaborate with the Director of the Howard and Lois Adelmann
Regional History Collection to develop programs and exhibits that
will promote the University Archives, the Lois Adelmann Regional
History Collection, and contribute to the Mission and Vision of the
university as deemed appropriate.
-Act as the Library liaison for the College of Humanities, Fine
Arts and Communications, which includes, providing specialized
library instruction and research services to the students and
faculty in areas connected to Humanities, Fine Arts, Communications
and general archival research.
-Under the direction of the Library Director, and in conjunction
with library staff, and the staff of other university units, assist
in long-range planning of library and archival services.
-Assist in special projects and/or activities.
In the continued effort to provide uniform services to all members
of the Lewis
University Community, Librarian positions will require some or, all
of the following job duties (following duties will be assigned as
needed by the Library Administration):
-Fulfills all liaison responsibilities established by library
administration and as assigned by the Director.
-Potential night and/or weekend shifts
-Facilitation of Library Instruction for on-campus and on-line
courses.
-Support of the Library and University's online space (course
management system, mobile Library application, online research
guides, online presence for specific courses, library digitization
initiatives
-Professional Development activities; including participation in
state, regional and/or country-wide professional library
associations.
-Library marketing and campus outreach; including liaison duties
with academic departments and/or colleges and/or, programs.
-Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Mission and
Academic Services and the Library Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree from an ALA accredited school of library/
information science, preferably with a concentration in archives or
some advanced training in archives, manuscripts, and special
collections. The
successful candidate will also have experience in archives or
special collections environment, as well as a broad understanding
of archival related
activities in an academic research library setting.
-At least 2 years of experience within an archives, museum,
library, or other institution that curates the collection and
maintenance of special collection materials.
-Experience with records retention policies and schedules as well
as exhibits
-Familiarity with basic preservation and conservation standards for
archival and rare books collections.
-Strong interest in working with students and faculty
-Excellent interpersonal, organizational and
communication skills
-Ability to work creatively, collaboratively and
effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and
inclusiveness in support of the Lewis University Mission
-Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects
Preferred Qualifications
-Second Master's degree in a relevant field to Humanities, Fine
Arts and/or Communications
-Previous academic library experience
-Experience with library assessment in an academic environment
-Knowledge of standards-based archival description and metadata
schema, such as EAD, DACS, XML and Dublin Core.
-Experience with digitization projects, archival database
management systems, and website construction.
-Familiarity with institutional repository tools, such as CONTENTdm
or Bepress.
-Familiarity with common library metadata schema such as AACR2,
Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress Subject
Headings (LCSH),
and Machine Readable Catalog (MARC).
Essential Duties
Work hours
Full time; typically Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5pm
Potential for some weekend and evening hours as needed
