Description:Our Underwriting Consultants are high-level individual
contributors responsible for managing, developing, and ensuring the
profitability of a book of Large Account Casualty business across
various industries and revenue segments.
- Focus on acquiring new risk management primary accounts.
- Recognized as technical experts in underwriting specialties,
including loss-sensitive account structures.
- Drive results through sales, marketing, and relationship
building with external agents and internal teams.The ideal
candidate will have over 5 years of large account casualty
underwriting experience and work on a hybrid basis, preferably from
our Chicago, IL office.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1.
Underwriting Expertise
- Review applications and financial documents to assess risk
acceptability following CNA's standards.
- Understand pricing components, rating methodologies, and use of
predictive modeling tools; price risks based on analysis.
- Utilize underwriting tools and strategies to adhere to
guidelines.
- Analyze coverage and limits for proper structuring of CNA's
umbrella or excess policies.
- Complete detailed underwriting reports including operational,
exposure, coverage, and loss analyses.
- Maintain technical underwriting skills through account reviews
and documentation.
- Follow guidelines to minimize exposure and ensure appropriate
pricing.
- Stay updated on state/territory regulations and trends.2.
Portfolio Management
- Manage assigned portfolios to meet premium, profitability,
retention, and growth goals.
- Prioritize resources to optimize producer performance.
- Identify cross-sell opportunities and foster growth across
lines of business and customer segments.
- Communicate CNA's product offerings and appetite effectively to
clients.3. Sales & Distribution Management
- Implement and maintain effective sales practices using CNA
systems like Salesforce.
- Build and nurture producer relationships to develop pipelines
and improve performance.
- Create distributor-specific plans, monitor, and adjust
strategies for growth.
- Manage customer relationships to build trust and facilitate
negotiations.
- Identify cross-sell opportunities and collaborate with
underwriters to deliver comprehensive solutions.All employees are

- Understanding of underwriting processes, coverages, and tools
for decision-making.

- Sound judgment, negotiation skills, and decision-making
capabilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, influence, and
multi-project management.Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent; professional designations
preferred.
- Typically, 10+ years of underwriting experience, with roles
possibly including Underwriting Consultant or Director, depending
on experience.Salary range varies by jurisdiction, with a typical
range of $72,000 to $141,000 annually, based on experience and
